Case Description

For years I have been grinding my teeth. I heard about a "new" appliance used to prevent bruxism. My dentist tells me she will do some research on it and she would like to know the name of the appliance or device. She does not sound well versed in methods used to solve the bruxism problem. Please provide any information you may have on a device or procedure used to prevent, allieviate or solve bruxism, night teeth grinding. thank you.

Thanks for your inquiry. There are a couple of different types of guards to help prevent you from grinding on your teeth. Dr. Moreau would need to meet with you and do some diagnostics to determine which would be the right choice for your mouth. Do you see evidence of grinding on the surface of the teeth (wearing down of the enamel)? Are your jaw joints symptomatic with pain, fatigue, click and pop noises? Do you have headaches and/or upper back and neck pain along with the grinding? Minimally, we can help protect your teeth from habitual grinding. Better yet, we can address some possible causes of the bruxism and possibly help you stop grinding altogether. Please call our office 985-809-7645 to schedule a comprehensive exam with Dr. Moreau. Our fee for that is $70 plus any x-rays that might be necessary. This would allow Dr. Moreau to gather the data he would need to make recommendations for your best options so you can make good decisions regarding the wear on your teeth.
